The effect of ruminal fluid pH on milk fatty acids composition in cattle

Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of ruminal fluid pH on fatty acids (FA) profile bovine milk. experiment was performed 250 Polish Holstein-Friesian cows reared in 11 commercial high-yielding dairy farms. Ruminal samples were collected by rumenocentesis, and fat FA concentrations milk analyzed Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. According pH, categorized into three groups: high (pH > 5.8), moderate 5.8–5.6), low < 5.6). Milk produced low-rumen had a decreased content as compared from moderate- high-rumen (P≤0.05). Moreover, characterized lowest level short-chain (SCFA; P≤0.05), consequently, highest medium-chain SCFA ratio (P≤0.01). regression analysis showed that these traits explained small proportion rumen variance, which makes them unreliable indicators subacute acidosis (SARA) cows. However, despite extensive variability composition observed this study, effect all herds same trend. Future research identify SARA biomarkers should therefore be conducted using techniques allow detection more individual milk, including SCFA.
